Random Thoughts

I swear, more and more, the United States as well as North America (Harper and His Cronies are sending Canada down the same path) is becoming a George Orwell nightmare come to life. I just read a news article stating that U.S can confiscate laptops, cellphones... and copy their information at a separate location. This includes books, paper, pretty much anything. For those of you who thought the Patriot Act was bad enough this is yet another abomination of human rights. Where will they stop?
I am extra glad (recently) I made this decision to stay here in Canada and not continue to "serve" in Iraq. Because, a really great friend of mine just got severely injured form a mortar attack at a place where I would have very likely gotten hit (had I still been there). I don't know when this madness will end but I can not wait until the day it stops.
I have recently gotten frustrated with the ignorant (not stupid) comments from individuals. In particular the comments on military benefits....... Let's just say that Canada's military is NOT the states army. For example reserves, reserves in Canada can choose to go to afghanistan and can easily go to college when they're not deployed. States soldiers do not have that choice, the reality is that they can be deployed at anytime and can be moved to deploy with another unit; some national guard units have spent more time in Iraq then active units. I recently found out that Canadian Soldiers can receive medical leave for PTSD. US Soldiers do not have that option, they are almost always either ignored or put on drugs. I was a medic and knew several soldiers that were on TRAZADONE. TRAZADONE! For those of you who don't read your pocket pharmacopia daily, Trazadone is STRONG anti-depressant that in the civilian world is used with EXTREME caution. It usually causes dizziness, drowsiness and blurred vision. You are not supposed to use any sort of machinery with this med. And yet my driver in IRAQ was on Trazadone for PTSD. You know what you DON'T give a sleep deprived young adult!? A mood altering drug that causes drowsiness. Talk about desperate need of one more trigger puller.

Right on

I arrived in Canada right at the beginning of the Election where Harper got elected. The first thing I remarked was how similar the attack ads the conservatives ran were to the attack ads the Republicans ran in the US. These guys are basically becoming nothing more than Diet Republicans...nothing more.

I'm afraid nothing is going to change until someone gets the cojones to call an election. I can live with a Liberal minority government...at least THEY sided with us!

First hand

I know brother, both points make me sick. The Nazi lifestyle current America is living and the fact that most are oblivious to it. What we are doing to our own troops, makes me so sick, to my stomach.
