A Great Response to the Christian Science Monitor Thingie.

In a recent article featured in the Christian Science Monitor, a publication I used to respect, Rondi Adamson wrote a pretty scathing article against the War Resister Support Campaign, War Resisters, and really, the Vietnam era deserters (because according to her, Canada only took in Draft Dodgers...). This article caused me to face palm* pretty hard. I can understand disagreeing with our position due to actual researched positions and logical reasoning...but when the premise of your article is *BOO HOO TOO BAD YOU SIGNED THE CONTRACT!!1!!1!!* smacks of pure ignorance and lack of education about the issue.

I didn't feel like writing a response to it. But, fortunately for me, a great response was written by J. M. Branum. I must point out at this point I wouldn't have thought about including this in my blog if it wasn't for The Common Ills, a fantastic blog. Man, I wish I had more time on my hands to do more blogging...

Anyway, I recommend reading that particular response. If anyone else needs a bit of a primer on the war resister issue, read our "Why Support War Resisters?" section of our web site. Better yet, how about reading A Deserter's Tale by Joshua Key, a fellow deserter and friend of mine who has seen and endured unimaginable horrors over in Iraq. How about watching one of a few documentaries made about the War Resisters? ANYTHING! I don't mind that you don't agree with me (well, I prefer that you did, it would make my life easier), but at least educate yourself about the other side of the issue before writing an article and calling it "Journalism".

*Face palm...it's a term I use a lot. To "Face Palm", move your palm of your right or left hand rapidly towards your face (preferably your forehead).
